Broward County

On Wednesday, Broward County Sheriff Greg Tony fired his second-in-command, Undersheriff Nichole Anderson.

The termination of Nichole Anderson shocked most Broward County Sheriff’s Office (BSO) employees. According to Sheriff Tony, Nichole Anderson was well-liked and respected among her staff.

Ambition can get you promoted, and sometimes ambition can get you demoted. In some cases, ambition can get you terminated.

Ms. Nichole Anderson was/is a very ambitious person. Broward Sheriff Gregory Tony won his 2024 general election with 67% of the vote. “In the 2024 Democratic primary, he won with 50% of the vote (17 points over the next candidate). In his 2020 primary, he narrowly defeated Scott Israel by 2 points (37.31% to 35.31%).

At the end of the day, Undersheriff Nichole Anderson is an “at-will employee,” who serves at the pleasure of the Sheriff.

So once Sheriff Tony learned Anderson was plotting against him, he shined his shoes on her behind. WTF.

With his 2028 reelection campaign just around the corner, Tony views his second in command as one less egg to fry. In his last election for Sheriff, Tony faced many feeble embryonic opponents. They all ended up being fried eggs on greasy Mac and Cheese burgers.

Some of his last opponents were retired former BSO employees who wanted to double-dip. In contrast, others were white guys who didn’t believe a Black guy should hold such a position.

Former undersheriff Nichole Anderson has 29 years of law enforcement service: 27 with BSO and 2 with FHP. Anderson rose through the ranks at BSO to become the first African American female to serve as Undersheriff at the Broward Sheriff’s Office.

First Appointed

On September 14, 2019, when Sheriff Tony appointed then Colonel Nichole Anderson to serve as his second in command, he said, “As I began soliciting interest for the position, I was pleasantly surprised by the overwhelming support from the rank and file who felt Colonel Anderson was the perfect candidate for the appointment. Or the perfect candidate to replace him.

To me, their actions are a testament to her leadership and the respect she has garnered through her career at BSO.”

It must have come as a big surprise to the Sheriff to learn that Anderson was plotting against him to take his job. REPEAT: Ambition can get you promoted, and sometimes ambition can get you demoted or fired.

Currently, Sheriff Greg Tony is involved in contract negotiations with the city of Pompano to remain as its law enforcement provider.

After the meeting with Pompano Beach city officials, Tony called Anderson to inform her of her termination.

At the end of their 30-second phone call, reportedly, Sheriff Tony told Ms. Anderson, “See you in 2028.”
The 2028 phrase refers to the upcoming election. Anderson and those who put her up to challenge Tony are disappointed for now.

While Anderson’s termination leaves her with more free time to plot against Tony, some argue that’s okay.
In Sheriff Tony’s mind, he’s thinking, you may plot against me, but you won’t do it while sitting at the table with me. Get the fuck out.
