The killer of U.S. Air Force Senior Airman 23-year-old Roger Fortson has been set free by a jury of peers to celebrate his deed.

The October 1 tit-for-tat verdict by an all-white jury of his peers that deliberated for just over two hours was a shocking blow to the heart of Roger Fortson’s mother.

10 to 1, the jury’s mind was already made up before they were selected for jury duty in Roger Fortson’s case.

Okaloosa, Florida, is a strange place.

On May 3, 2024, a woman – someone that some members of today’s society call a ‘Karen ’-called the police and lied to the 9-1-1 Operator about a couple fighting in U.S. Airman Roger Fortson’s apartment unit.

“It was the 3rd of June, another sleepy Delta, dusty day.” –Bobby Gentry.

(A Karen is an entitled, demanding, and often aggressive person—typically a middle-aged white woman—who abuses their social privilege to complain, make unreasonable demands, or police others). — Wikipedia.

After the ‘Karen’ filed the false, electronically voice-recorded police report that went through the telephone ‘wire,’ Okaloosa deputy sheriff Eddie Duran showed up to investigate the alleged domestic dispute.
Granted, domestic dispute calls sometimes can be problematic for law enforcement officers.
The nosy ‘Karen’ who filed the false police report directed the jumpy and scared-to-death Eddie Duran to Fortson’s apartment unit, where Duran would kill Fortson standing in his doorway with a legally owned firearm.

With his tail between his legs and his heart in his throat, Duran banged on Fortson’s apartment door.
This was when Fortson made a fatal mistake by opening the door with a gun in his right hand.
However, he was young. Opening your front door with a gun in hand – it doesn’t matter to whom – is ill-advised.
He should have stayed on the phone with his girlfriend and ignored the banging on his door.
Many times, hindsight proves to be 2020 after the bell has already been rung.

U.S. Airman Roger Fortson had every right to be in his castle and to have a legally owned gun.

The all-white tit-for-tat verdict handed down on October 1, 2026, has a basis in the shooting of 62-year-old Bart Guillermo in a North Lauderdale Walmart parking lot at 7900 West McNab Road, on June 30, 2026.

Millions of white bigots were torn up behind Broward County prosecutor’s decision not to put Guillermo’s killer in prison.

Bart Guillermo and his shooter, Melissa Payne, argued over a single parking space in a Walmart parking lot that had hundreds of other empty parking spaces.

When someone opens their door with a gun in hand to answer a knock, it forces the person on the outside knocking on the door to decide.

The knocker has three choices: fight, flee, or freeze (surrender).

There is a fourth choice. It is called assessment and de-escalation, or defusing the situation.

He who fights monsters should make sure that he doesn’t become a monster himself. – Nietzsche.

On May 3rd, 2024, Eddie Duran made the wrong choice.

U.S. Airman Roger Fortson appeared to be on a decent path in life.

Yet he ended up dead, face down on the floor like an angry young man with a gun in his hand.

And his mama cries. – Elvis Presley.

On a cold and gray Choctaw morning, another baby child is born in the ghetto, and his mama cries.

On July 3rd, the Broward Prosecutor closes the case; they said Payne was acting in self-defense, under Florida’s Stand Your Ground law, a right that many people seem to think does not apply to the African American experience in the game of life.

To many people, Black people have become the game to be hunted and killed in the game. Eddie Duran has gotten his kill in the hunt.

“There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under the heavens,” as written in Ecclesiastes 3.

The jury gave Eddie Duran the chance and helped him to HANG Roger Fortson’s “soul,” figuratively speaking, on his wall in celebration. And the beat goes on.

Another life cast over the Choctaw Ridge, as Bobby Gentry would say. Eddie Duran keeps tossing Black babies over Tallahatchie Bridge for a reason.
Okaloosa means “black water” in the language of the Choctaw ‘Indian.’ Okaloosa is a strange place.
In 1980, the Black population in Okaloosa County was 8.49%; today, it remains at 8.93%, according to the 2020 U.S. Census.
In 1980, Okaloosa’s Hispanic population was 2.34%; today, it has risen to 10.67%.

It is worth repeating: Eddie Duran keeps throwing Black babies over the Choctaw Tallahatchie Bridge for a reason.
The City of Lauderhill just rejected a qualified former African American Chief of Police to replace its outgoing chief.
They hired an assistant chief of police who botched the investigation into the shooting of an unarmed African American while he was lying in the street on his back with his hands in the air.
The Black residents of Lauderhill can expect unaccountability to continue, as the shooter who shot the unarmed African American in the street of North Miami remains free because of Lauderhill’s new chief’s incompetence or deliberate moves.
