City of Lauderhill cop Brian Sguros was accused of stealing a dead man’s identity and house and resigned his position before the hammer of termination could fall on him.

In an October 27 news release, the city announced that “Police Officer Brian Sguros has resigned from the police department, instead of termination, effective immediately.”

Upon Sguros’ termination, the Lauderhill authorities said they acted “swiftly to protect the public trust.”

Sguros joined Lauderhill PD in March 2021, became a five-year veteran, and had barely completed probation when he hatched the plot to steal Dennis West’s home.

A wolf in blue, stealing was already part of his core when he signed up to become a cop.

When he stole Dennis West’s house, his inner being manifested.
Lauderhill PD: his termination came “following an Internal Affairs investigation into allegations involving residential property within the city.”
After receiving a complaint on May 27, 2026, regarding “Officer Sguros conduct, Chief of Police Constance Stanley ordered an internal investigation” into Sguros’ conduct, according to the News Release.
“In July, 2026, as the criminal investigation proceeded, Officer Sguros was placed on paid administrative leave, in accordance with city protocol for employees under criminal investigation.”
When Equinox Realty LLC confronted him about freeloading on their property, Sguros could have walked away.

Instead, his arrogance encouraged him to challenge the ‘rightful owners’ by filing an adverse possession claim.

He gambled, and he lost.

He turned over the house keys to Equinox, but his pride wouldn’t let him walk away.

After the October 20th arrest and subsequent October 21st bond hearing, the judge released Sguros on a $25,000 bond.

The Broward County Court docket shows no upcoming hearing for Brian L. Sguros.

“As required by Florida law, the City of Lauderhill Police Department will report Officer Sguros separation and the circumstances surrounding it. The Memo goes on to say, The Department is fully cooperating with the agencies handling the criminal case.”
