On Friday, August 15, 2025, federal prosecutors indicted New Orleans Mayor Latoya Cantrell. The government is alleging that Cantrell misused city funds to cover up her romantic relationship with a policeman. This misuse has outraged the public.
New Orleans, a city with one of the highest poverty rates in America, has been enduring significant hardships. However, this did not deter Mayor Cantrell and her policeman lover from ‘Hitting ‘Em Up.’ Blu Cantrell style.
The fifty-three-year-old Mayor was hot-rodding it while she was married to attorney Jason Cantrell. Poor Mr. Cantrell died in August 2023. Sometimes people die of a broken heart. That’s what the federal authorities in the U.S. District Court in the Eastern District of Louisiana claim happened. So they charged her with conspiracy to commit wire fraud, obstruct justice, making false statements, and false declaration before a grand jury.

“Prosecutors allege Cantrell was in a romantic relationship with Detective Jeffrey Paul Vappie II, who served on the New Orleans Police Department’s executive protection unit from May 2021 to April 2024.” Detective Vappie II had her body under full surveillance and protection. Vappie’s protection of Cantrell’s body was different from what Nikki Haley’s bodyguard had.
