Under editor-in-chief Bari Weiss, CBS News is implementing another 6% staff reduction, reflecting recent leadership-driven restructuring efforts.
CBS News is owned by major corporations like TikTok, Oracle founder Larry Ellison, and his son David, under the umbrella of Paramount Global, which influences its operations.
Under Bari Weiss, CBS News has moved from a somewhat centrist news organization to one driven by right-wing politics.
On October 6, 2025, the Ellisons hired Bari Weiss to run CBS News. Since then, many have labeled the station Fox News Lite.
Upon her arrival at CBS in October 2025, one of the first things Bari Weiss did was slash 100 staffers from the payroll.
The Times Sure Are Changing
Under Bari Weiss’ leadership, there hasn’t been any meaningful change in CBS News programming. Weiss’ major accomplishment so far has been firing employees. Firing deadwood could save the company money and leave more money in its bank account to gobble up other media organizations.
Weiss and Tom Cibrowski are doing a lot of shock-and-awe firing and destructuring, but not much in the way of upward mobility restructuring.
Targeting other news outlets for purchasing and not knowing how to manage them is a bad long-term business strategy.
In the short term, it works, as CNN staffers shake in their boots.
CNN staffers are wondering how to slant the news to suit Bari Weiss’s editorial tastes and win her favor.

The network also has plans to axe its “nearly 100-year-old CBS News Radio, Radio Division.” Weiss will eliminate all employees at CBS News Radio as part of her restructuring project.
Weiss believes the removal of CBS Radio will bring the CBS News organization in line with TikTok and the digital age.

“A CBS source told The Post that the layoffs are likely to impact close to 60 people, now at TikTok media.
Previous reporting indicated that the network could be laying off as much as 15% of its workforce.”
The ‘News’ (no pun intended) about the layoffs came in a memo from CBS News President Tom Cibrowski.
“Today we are reducing the size of our workforce, and employees who are affected will be notified by the end of the day,” the memo reads.
May 22, 2026, will be the day Weiss and Cibrowski bring the hammer down on those staffers.
