A Dangerous Trend
The freedom to speak reasonably and openly is a fundamental human right given by God.
America sends its “soldiers,” most of whom are young men and women, to fight wars they didn’t start. Frequently, the government sends American soldiers into battle to shield and protect the rights of the people to worship whichever God they please.
And they fight to protect the rights of the people to speak freely, and they fight to secure the wealth of the wealthy. But at home, when they utter words that are diverse from those with wealth — the rich threaten to starve them to death. They conspire to prevent them from getting jobs that would allow them to feed their future family.
A disturbing trend.
They post their names and faces on billboards to incite angry mobs to go to their homes, attack, and kill the young and their families.
A disturbing vicious trend sweeping the nation is called cancel culture. Cancel culture isn’t new, but it rears its ugly head again. It resurfaced with supporters of politicians on the left attempting to cancel out the free speech of politicians on the “right.” Soon, the right-wing supporters of right-wing politics retaliated against the left’s mindset. And the 21st Century cancel culture war was on. The 20th-century culturists used outright violence to silence dissent or opposing points of view.
Comparison: 20th Century vs 21st Century Bloodshed at Protests
In the tumultuous realm of protests, a stark contrast emerges between the killings witnessed in the 20th and 21st centuries.
Amidst the 20th-century turmoil at Kent State University, the air hung heavy with the acrid scent of gunpowder as the deafening roar of gunfire reverberated upon the 300 Kent State University student dissidents. The sight of protesters falling, their bodies crumpling to the ground, stained the scene with a somber hue. The chilling reality of lives lost was palpable, leaving an indelible mark on the collective conscience.
Fast forward to the 21st Century, where a new era of peaceful protest on college campuses. The calls for the massacre of the students are more subtle. Business executives call, and plots reveal a slow and torturous violence. Mark the protesters with a Red Scarlet Letter. Make them unemployable and homeless.
While the methods may have evolved, the tragic outcome remains unchanged. Lives continue to be lost, leaving a trail of grief and anguish in their wake. The killing of protesters, whether in the 20th or 21st Century, serves as a somber reminder of the enduring fight for justice and the immense sacrifices made along the way.
On May 4th, 1970, Ohio Governor James Allen Rhodes ordered the Ohio Army National Guard to carry out a massacre of students at Kent State University who were exercising their right to protest peacefully.
