Canadian police’s Violence Against Black women attorney Sudine Riley highlights urgent issues of police accountability and racial injustice.

Sudine Riley, a Black woman Canadian defense attorney, found it hard to defend herself from the blows of white Canadian courtroom cops. Canadian law enforcement is famous for its Mounted Police. They like to get on top of horses and ride them.

On January 23, 2026, petite criminal defense attorney Sudine Riley found herself being attacked, beaten, and mounted, and restrained by a set of Canada’s courtroom cops.

According to attorney Riley, during the attack, they slammed her head onto a desk. They also placed their knees on her neck in a George Floyd-type suffocation attempt. During the attack, the Mounties ripped her headscarf from her head, revealing her dyed blonde hair. How excited did they get?

It was Friday, the end of the day and the end of the workweek. All trials were concluded by Monday. It’s the weekend, crackheads can’t wait to smoke crack. Some uniformed wearing wife beaters can’t wait to go home to beat their wives.

On the other hand, some attorneys are trying to tie up loose ends to make sure they can mount the best defense for their clients. In steps defense attorney Sudine Riley, sitting inside an interview room at the Ontario Superior Court of Justice in Oshawa, Ontario.

This is a side room that attorneys customarily use for paperwork and to conduct interviews. Ms. Riley isn’t a petite white Irish woman; she is a petite Black woman. How did she get the last name Riley? Did Irish settlers once own her? We digress.

When two bailiffs spotted Ms. Riley, her presence got them all riled up. They quickly pounced. Hey Blackie, what are you doing in here?

Ms. Riley tried her best to put up a defense from her attackers, but she was no match for the burly white men who pulled her dress up to expose her underwear while beating her.

It is unknown if the courtroom cops are married and if their sexual proclivities with their partners include beatings. Sometimes those kinds of epigenetic flogging of Black women for sexual gratification have roots in slavery. Ms. Riley began practicing law in her native Jamaica before moving to Canada.

One of Attorney Riley’s areas of practice is sexual assault against women. Of course, that doesn’t mean that she’s embellishing her story about the cops lifting her dress.

At 5:00 p.m., on Friday, Several women who work in the legal profession staged a sit-in to voice their concern about police brutality against women.
“The fact that she was trespassed 10 minutes after closing to the public is also egregious,” said Cassandra DeMelo, president of the advocacy group Women in Canadian Criminal Defence. “It’s an offensive abuse of power.”
