On Saturday, at about 9:05 a.m. (local time), ICE agents shot dead 37-year-old ICU nurse Alex Jeffery Pretti. Video shows Pretti trying to assist a woman shoved to the ground by an ICE agent.
Alex Pretti’s interruption of the agents’ operation led to a minor scuffle between him and the agents. The situation escalated to where several agents tackled Alex Pretti to the ground/snow.
There was a muffled background sound that yelled, ‘Shoot him.’ About three seconds after the muffled yell, shots rang out. The agents involved in the scuffle with the victim briefly scampered off.
There was one person who was involved, wearing camo, who was seen sneakily walking off between cars, appearing to be hiding an object in his hand. The incident occurred in front of a donut shop at 26th Street and Nicollet Avenue in Minneapolis.
According to DHS, the shooting, which occurred at 9:05 a.m. local time, 10:05 a.m. Eastern time, came during a “targeted operation.” DHS said the operation against an illegal immigrant wanted for violent assault occurred when “an individual approached US Border Patrol officers with a 9 mm semi-automatic handgun.”
“The officers attempted to disarm the suspect, but the armed suspect violently resisted,” DHS said. “Fearing for his life and the lives and safety of fellow officers, an agent fired defensive shots.”
Hours after the incident, United States Homeland Security Advisor Steven Miller labeled Alex Jeffery Pretti a “Domestic Terrorist who tried to assassinate federal law enforcement”.
Thirty-seven-year-old Alex Jeffery Pretti’s parents said he worked at the Department of Veterans Affairs as an ICU Nurse. No official confirmation has been provided. The Department of Veterans Affairs has not confirmed his employment status.
Ever since the January 7 killing of Renee Nicole Good, a 37-year-old mother of three, by an ICE agent, there has been a surge of ICE agents in Minneapolis.
