To save money, CBS News is cutting ties with deadwood host Gayle King. Gail King has been with CBS for fourteen years. She is the co-host of “CBS Mornings.” King’s contract with CBS expires in May 2026.
Despite the rumors swirling about Gail King’s potential departure from CBS, the network’s top brass has firmly denied any discussions about her contract. King, when asked about her future, expressed her commitment, saying, “I’m here and glad to be here.” According to reports by the New York Post, CBS pays King $10 million annually and has been paring back its employee count to save money.
The low-rated “CBS Mornings” has been shedding viewers like a snake sheds its skin.
According to ADWEEK, “CBS Mornings ranked third in total viewers and A25-54 during Q3 2025.”

Paramount Global, the owner of Skydance, has been on a buying spree. The company recently acquired a significant stake in ByteDance, the former owner of TikTok. This acquisition came just weeks after Paramount Global merged with CBS.

Variety first reported the story about Gayle King’s departure from CBS as co-host of “CBS Mornings.” Upon hearing that there are talks for Gayle King to step down from her role at “CBS Morning,” President Trump quipped on Truth Social. “She should have stayed with her belief in TRUMP. She never dared to do so. No talent, no ratings, no strength!!!”
She joined CBS to co-anchor CBS This Morning on January 9, 2012. Gayle King signed her initial contract with CBS on November 10, 2011.
The 70-year-old news anchor is better known as Oprah Winfrey’s buddy. Many in the Black community see Oprah Winfrey as a destructive force.
