Temporary Protection Status (TPS) will expire on February 3 for hundreds of thousands of Haitians and Venezuelans.

The removal of TPS could become a catastrophic, life-changing event for Venezuelans registered under the Act who have been living and working in the US since March 9, 2021.

For Haitians covered under TPS, the change would spell disaster. Haiti is not an oil-rich country. And France and others have plundered most, if not all, of its treasures (natural resources.

After the January 12, 2010, 7.0-magnitude earthquake tore much of Haiti apart, the US made a special designation for Haitian nationals living in America. The special designation allowed eligible Haitian nationals in the US to “live and work legally for 18 months.”

Over the years, throughout the Obama, Trump, and Biden administrations, they have made extensions due to ongoing turmoil in Haiti. Vicious gang members have torn the country apart.

On June 27, 2025, Secretary of Homeland Security Kristi Noem walked up to the microphone and made a devastating announcement.

She said the termination of Temporary Protected Status (TPS) for Haitian nationals would officially end on February 3, 2026. Noem said that conditions in Haiti no longer warranted the status.

Earlier in 2025, on February 1, Noem announced a similar termination of the special designation status for Venezuelans.

Noem published in the official journal of the federal government that Venezuelans’ TPS would end on April 7, 2025.

After legal challenges, they moved the end date to November 7, 2025. A federal judge, Edward Chen, put a pause on the end date for some Haitians and Venezuelans.

For those who received a TPS approval notice between January 17, 2025, and February 5, 2025, their TPS will remain valid until October 2, 2026.

And some beneficiaries with specific, approved documentation may maintain work authorization until October 2, 2026.
By February 3, 2026, many businesses in South Florida could experience slowdowns due to a lack of employees.

Springfield, Ohio, could also see an increase in ICE activity. In 2024, JD Vance made it clear his disdain for the striving Haitian community in the town. Vance attached himself to a story he heard and published it that Haitians were eating their cats and dogs.
While the Vice President is a “meat and potatoes guy.” Vance never said what kinds of meat (animals) he eats. Unless one is a Vegan, everyone else eats some form of animal.
