Young Communist Mamdani beat two professional candidates to become mayor. Zohran Mamdani’s historic win as New York City’s first openly Democratic socialist mayor has the potential to reshape the city’s political landscape.
Despite the one million New Yorkers who threatened to leave if he won because they disagreed with his socialist policies, it’s clear that the reality is different. They’re not going anywhere, and neither is Mamdani’s influence.
Massachusetts, New York’s neighboring state, has seen a recent increase in home sales.
The real challenge for Mamdani lies in the uncertainty of whether he can deliver on his promises of ‘freebies’ for New Yorkers. It’s a daunting task, and it’s unlikely that he’ll fulfill 80 percent or more of his ambitious campaign pledges. The New York government, with its age-old traditions, is not easily swayed.

The ‘Continuity of Government’ refers to the uninterrupted functioning of government institutions, regardless of changes in leadership or political parties.
There will always be the continuity of government. The continuity of government means business as usual. While Zohran Mamdani is an articulate politician, he lacks the courage to rock the boat. In politics, some are talkers. Some are doers. Some are walkers, and a few are movers and shakers. Mamdani is a talker.
One of the most significant criticisms of Mamdani’s leadership is the absence of innovative ideas. All of his pledges of free things aren’t new. They have been tried in other socialist countries.
The question that lingers is, what would it take for the changes he envisions to become a reality?
It would take someone with a revolutionary spirit to bring it about. A Abraham Lincoln, George Washington, or a Teddy Roosevelt to bring them about. In ‘modern’ times, Donald J. Trump is the only other President who has come close to having a revolutionary mindset.
Meanwhile, New York voters sent professional candidate and three-time loser former governor Andrew Cuomo packing. The former governor gained % Cuomo. Former “Guardian Angel” Curtist Sliwa came in a distant 3rd. Some people view Sliwa as a spoiler to Cuomo. Sliwa remained consistent and ran as a Republican. While the opportunistic Andrew Cuomo ran in any hat or Sombrero that would fit him. He likes to run for office. Soon, he might run for the border. Running has become his full-time job.
