Miami rapper Luther Campbell, aka “Uncle Luke,” has thrown his hat in the ring to replace Florida District 20 Rep. Sheila Cherfilus-McCormick. Campbell has a tough row to hoe ahead of him.
Aside from incumbent Cherfilus-McCormick, his other formidable opponents include seasoned politicians such as Dale Holness and attorney Mark A. Douglas. Dale Holness is Cherfilus-McCormick’s longtime competitor. In 2021, Holness lost by just five votes to Cherfilus-McCormick.
Holness is a former City Commissioner of Lauderhill and former mayor of Broward County, Florida. Attorney Mark A. Douglas is a City of Sunrise commissioner.
Another formidable opponent, poll-wise, running neck-and-neck with Cherfilus-McCormick, is 27-year-old Elijah Manley. This run for Congress is Manley’s second time running for office.
In 2020, at age 21, Elijah Manley also ran and lost for the seat in the Florida House of Representatives (District 94).
Rapper Luther Campbell, who turned from rapper to activist and then politician, threw his hat in the ring on February 15. Then, on the 26th, Dr. Rudolph Moise also challenged Cherfilus-McCormick.
During an appearance on WPLG-Ch. 10’s “This Week In South Florida,” host Glenna Milberg asked Campbell about the policies he wants to implement.
The answers Campbell gave made him seem unserious and presented a list of untenable ideas.
Ideas that are the opposite of a winning candidate. According to Campbell, his primary reason for running for Congress is to address TPS.
TPS stands for Temporary Protected Status. Campbell assumes the audience knows what TPS means. His focus is on people in the country awaiting finalization of their status.
Then Campbell rattled off a figure of 700,000 South Florida residents on TPS.
In a separate interview with Glenna Milberg, Rep. Cherfilus-McCormick mentioned TPS and connected the dots on why her political concern was TPS. “We have over 350,000 Haitian people who they’re trying to deport from TPS.
Every single one of them has a family member who got them into this country,” Cherfilus-McCormick said.
Asked about the challenge from Campbell, Cherfilus-McCormick (SCM) told Glenna Milberg, “I have no thoughts about that. Right now, we are in a fight.
“I don’t have time to worry about political games when I have real problems.”
Rep. SCM is correct. She’s got some real problems coming down the pike, including the possibility of spending up to 55 years in prison for fraud.
Florida has 28 U.S. representatives; on average, each represents roughly 771,376 residents.
Broward County has 270,978 registered Republicans, 629,323 registered Democrats, and 368,842 NPAs (No Party Affiliation) voters.
Campbell’s platform, written by someone shrewd, has a message that’s a bit clearer.
It Takes Money to Run a Political Campaign.
Milberg asks Campbell whether he has the money to sustain his campaign.
If America runs on Dunkin’ Donuts, political campaigns run on cash. Most of which is donated to keep corrupt politicians corrupt.
A favor for a flavor isn’t just for hoes on Biscayne BLVD and 79th Street. A ‘favor for a flavor’ is a reference to political whores running for office and who are in elected office.
Campbell’s answer to Glenna shocks reality. He told Milberg that his financial support would come from the artists that he produced.
Those artists are all broke. One of his main artists, MC Shy D, had to sue him to recover the royalties Luke ripped off.
The courts forced Campbell to pay MC Shy D. $1.6 million in royalties for ripped-off songs. He won’t get any financial support from MC Shy D.
Ain’t nobody giving his ass no money. He’s shated a bunch of his former artists.
And the powerhouse group H-Town doesn’t have as much as a church mouse to contribute to Campbell.
H-Town was indeed a powerhouse entertainment force—condolences to their family for the tragic loss of Keven “Dino” Conner.
Campbell’s Name Recognition.
Luther Campbell’s celebrity status could serve as fuel to help him reach voters, but it won’t be enough to get him to Congress. When Campbell was on top of the charts, most of the folks he appealed to then are now old and churchgoing.
Campbell has helped spearhead the fight for free speech. Through his efforts, many people on YouTube are now able to say “obscene” things that once were taboo.
Campbell can be credited with the wanton sexual revolution in Rap Music. In contrast, groups like N.W.A. (Niggaz With Attitude) are credited with popularizing gang violence and carnage in the Black community.
Either way, both forces have spawned self-destructive practices within the Black community.
The artists walk away rich. The Black youth lay dead in the streets. At the same time, the Elvis Presleys of rap music, such as Ememiem and Bad Bunny, revel in the theft of Black folks’ intellectual property.
A New Political Landscape.
The political landscape is rapidly shifting.
The big donors are looking to support the young, dumb, and full of cum crowd. Particularly those who are easily manipulated, such as Rep. Maxwell Frost. He doesn’t know if he’s coming or going.
Hence, Elijah Manley rose in the polls. The polls speak to a desire for the sect of asexuals, metrosexuals, and the effeminate. And perhaps, it is a great idea to put them in office. They couldn’t be worse than the current batch.
ake a look at idiots like Senator Chuck Schumer, Rep. Hakeem Jeffries, Senators Mitch McConnell, John Kennedy, and Ron Johnson.
That is an old school of numbskulls, dead men walking.
They are all dead from the neck up. They are ruining the country for a few dollars more.
As for Dr. Rudolph Moise’s decision to enter the race against Cherfilus-McCormick? No one knows why as of yet. This run is another exercise in futility to feed his ego.
