The budget-friendly Spirit Airlines has been grounded. It has lost its Spirit to fly.
After 34 years of offering travelers a cheaper option to get from point “A” to point “B,” the doors to the bargain basement have closed.
The rising cost of jet fuel, a touch of mismanagement, and an unwillingness to squeeze customers for every dollar pulled the airlines down.
Just before Spirit shut down its last flight, the company was in negotiations with the Trump administration to secure a $500 million bailout.

The Administration, in essence, told Spirit Airlines that America is a capitalist society, so they must swim or sink.
The three dominant airlines, Delta, United, and American, were set against the government bailing out Spirit. They say, leave Spirit Airlines to become a ghost. Let it die.
“These are the big fish that always try to eat up the small fish. In 2020 and 2021, the federal government bailed out the three major airlines (United, American, and Delta) for $54 billion.

While Spirit Airlines sought $500 million, the federal government had already provided $54 billion in bailouts to the three major airlines-Delta, United, and American Airlines.
The differential treatment underscores the vast difference in industry support for smaller businesses.
Today, the Trump Administration’s Transportation Secretary, Sean Duffy, said that there is no room at the Inn for the widow’s son, says the innkeeper.
Duffy and U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent place the blame for Spirit Airlines’ demise squarely on the Biden administration.
“The reason we were here was that the Biden administration opposed the merger. We shouldn’t have been here in the first place,” Treasury Secretary Bessent told Fox News Maria Bartiromo.

Spirit Airlines Took Body Blows from Trump and Biden.

In 2022, when Spirit Airlines began struggling financially, JetBlue attempted to merge with Spirit to keep the airline afloat.

However, the Biden administration blocked the merger between Spirit and JetBlue, leaving the yellow bird to fly on one wing.

Spirit Airlines originates out of Dania Beach, Florida, and employs 17,000 employees.

On May 2, just before the shutdown, “the airline was operating over 500 daily flights to more than 60 destinations.”

While the Trump administration blames the Biden administration for Spirit Airlines’ closure, both administrations played a role in its demise.

The Biden administration was. The Trump administration is. The American people hired the current president to repair what the past Administration broke.

That is why people change Presidents. They vote incompetence out and put a new President in office to fix what’s broken.

Whenever 17,000 employees lose their jobs, on average, that is 51,000 mouths that soon won’t have food to eat.
